In his old age, having spent his working life creating
the SAGA group, Sidney De Haan suffered from dementia, one of the most
common age related degenerative mental health conditions.
His son Roger noticed that attending musical events
had a significant impact on Sidney and that this effect lasted beyond the
event itself. The Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health was
established to conduct research into the effects of artistic endeavour on
heath and to evaluate artistic interventions designed to improve mental and
physical health, quality of life and wellbeing.
In 2005 Sing For Your Life Ltd. was established as a
Registered Charity (1113757) and Company Limited by Guarantee (5393332) to
establish and manage a network of musical activities for older people.
